Flashback: Duke Snider Private Signing

The SportsBuy autograph signing with Dodger legend Duke Snider took place on March 1st, 2008 at Duke’s home in Fallbrook, California. My father, a novice to autograph signings, traveled with me on the 2-plus hour trip from our offices in Los Angeles to Duke’s house.

Duke wore a Brooklyn Dodgers cap and jacket. He seemed in very good health and was also quite talkative. He spoke about each 8×10 photo and remembered when and how they were taken. Considering that he’ll turn 82 this fall, Duke seemed very sharp and strong. He happily wrote inscriptions and personalizations for the customers that had sent items in to us in advance.

The autograph signing took place outside on Duke’s front porch. It was a cool morning and his home is set right next to a large golf course. The view from his home overlooked the entire course and was pretty impressive.

Duke’s wife was very nice as well as she came outside frequently to offer us some drinks and snacks. Duke certainly was a very classy individual. I felt very fortunate to have met privately with this legendary Dodger and to have spent the day with my father at the Duke’s home. It was an experience that I’ll never forget.
